River Rising 2013

After having been in the tight holds of a drought for years, all this rain has been a blessing just as much, if not more, than it has caused problems. Our farmers are finally getting the rain they need for their crops and our town river even actually looks like a river for a change too instead of a pathetic creak or small stream. Although it has gotten pretty high lately. These are just a few of the pictures I was able to take while out looking at it all yesterday and we’ve had another good pounding since then too.

Take particular note of the pic of a small handicapped parking lot found downtown. Forget help with fixing my van! Anyone have a boat I could borrow?? lol : )

No boat is getting under this bridge any time soon. This section is usually so low you can see the sand bars all along the bottom.

Our dam is working overtime but I am very glad it is working. Also very grateful for our big ditch. I didn't get any pictures of that but it's more full than our river. If it wasn't there, our whole town would probably be under water by now.

If you look closely enough, you can see bare traces of the tops of the benches. The ones that sat a few feet away from the sidewalk that used to be a good distance away from the edge of the bank, let alone the water line.

Halfway up these stairs already.

So high in this area that the trees that used to not even be at the bank are already starting to get covered at their lower/hanging limbs.

  1. Yes, I know a man with a boat who’d be glad to ferry you and the boys around town. I believe his name is Gilligan. 🙂
